“The textile industry sends 40% (with some sources claiming up to 85%!) of waste to landfills, and with textiles taking 200+ years to decompose.”

PROJECT GOALS To design a free trading platform for students that prioritizes bartering to reduce waste, based directly on user research findings.

USER SURVEY Bartering as a Sustainable Alternative

While students actively source second-hand items (96.8% from thrift stores, 74.2% online), there was no dedicated platform for bartering.

The research also identified critical user requirements: User Profiles & Ratings (93.5%) and In-App Messaging for negotiation (80.6%) were deemed essential for building trust and facilitating trades.

IDEAS & USER MAPPING   Mapped main features based on the survey that users will be required to interact, and drafted a low fidelity sketch that uses cards, visual maps of events and trades happening in the area.

FINALFinalized main features based on the survey that users will be required to interact with, and drafted a low-fidelity sketch that uses cards, visual maps of events, and trading sections

HOME
A dual-feed view separating Community Events (71% interest) and Individual Trade Listings.

MAPA spatial view of nearby tradable items to encourage local, low-friction exchanges.

CREATE (+)
Central, prominent call-to-action for users to easily list an item for trade.

MESSAGESDedicated space for the crucial negotiation phase identified in research.PROFILEHosts user ratings for trust and introduces mini-gamification (e.g., "Eco-Points" for trades) to incentivize participation in a non-monetary ecosystem.
